Because of foreign objects that sometimes get trapped between the oyster and its’ shell, a pearl is formed on the inside face of the shell or mother-of-pearl. These are called blister pearls and are attached to the shell. These pearls that are embedded in the shell cannot be removed so the shell is cut out with the embedded pearl and made into freshwater pendants.
